I’m Full of Energy! September 18, 2015

• According to Einstein’s formula (E=mc2) one pound of mass could (theoretically) be converted into to four quadrillion (4.091×1016) joules of pure energy, and vice-versa.

• In the year 2012, the world’s electricity production was 22,668 terawatt-hours, or 8.160×1019 joules. (1 TWh = 3.6×1015 J)

• Therefore, the entire world’s annual electricity production could (theoretically) be provided from 1,995 pounds of feathers, bricks, or whatever you find on-hand.

• In fact, my own 183 pounds of muscle and bone could power the whole world for 33 days, or sustain our U.S. electric consumption for 159 days (from January 1st through June 8th.)

• So yeah, you could say I’m a pretty powerful guy, or at least that I’m full of potential.

  1. Fun fact: The amount of matter converted to energy needed to Alderaanize the earth is roughly equal to the mass of Mount Everest.
