In most cases, if you or I could create it, it’s probably not great art.
When I hear “restore objective standards” it makes me think of this scene from Dead Poets Society.
While I do feel like most of the specific pieces he complains about seem devoid of deeper meaning, I don’t like the sentiment that artists shouldn’t try to create meaning in new and potentially exciting ways. The crushing power of time will sort out the wheat from the chaff, as crappy art is forgotten. Cream rises. Shock wears off.
To the artists out there, keep challenging the way we see the world.
