  • For those who are “spiritual but not religious,” their instincts are their scriptures.
  • “Pope Francis, in what is an unprecedented break with tradition and a clear olive branch to the Jewish community, is now sporting a kippah, or yarmulke, in his public appearances.” –What I half-expected the mainstream media would say next about the pope.
  • “The nonsense written by philosophers on scientific matters is exceeded only by the nonsense written by scientists on philosophy.” (–C. D. Broad, 1887-1971)
  • Our government is made in our image; unserious, divided, and in debt.
  • Those executive orders of Pres. Obama which go beyond his constitutional authority should concern everyone. If his actions become precedent, there will be a Republican president, sooner or later, who will refuse to enforce duly-enacted federal laws that progressives support.
  • Fooling your body, for years at a time, into believing that it’s pregnant is unlikely to be harmless.
  • Everyone acknowledges that the 1st Amendment only refers to laws, but there is also a spirit of Free Speech: Tolerant people should seek to persuade rather than punish those who disagree with them. Americans reacted strongly against the Duck Dynasty suspension because they identified with the speaker’s opinion and saw that they too could be punished for blasphemy. People have increasing reason to fear being persecuted themselves, terminated and shunned, for holding that homosexual acts are wrong. The groundswell against A&E was a push back against that trend.
  • Do you think it is wise for the government to subsidize the news media? Did you know that there are state-run media outlets here in our country? (They’re called PBS and NPR.)
  • I would say that churches and any other free association of Americans should have the right to petition the government and promote their viewpoints. If that is religion “meddling” in government, then I support such “meddling.”
  • Two possibilities exist: Either we are unique in the universe or we are not. Both are amazing.
  • “If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?” (–Aleksander Solzhenitsyn in “The Gulag Archipelago”)
