This reminds me of stories about Fr. Edward Flanagan of Boys Town in Omaha. Sometimes, when troubled boys or girls would arrive very unhappy to be there, he would find them. He would say, “Why not give it a try? Who knows, you might like it!” As a result, they would decide to give the program a try, have their lives transformed, and later see a picture of Fr. Flanagan (who had died in 1948, years before they arrived) and realize it had been him. Why should we think that saints stop caring about what happens down here simply because they have gone to heaven?
