A little intra-eccelcial Catholic apologetics. Looks like I need to brush up on Lumen Gentium.

Let’s pray for all involved. Maybe we’ll get to meet Fr. Ted September 8 in Kalamazoo.

Incidentally, when I was in seminary in the era following the abuse scandals, there was a Vatican-decreed investigation of all the seminaries. A visitation group came to my seminary and met one-on-one with each of the seminarians and faculty to interview us about our priestly formation. We all understood that it was important to be transparent to this oversight and no one felt like they were not consulted.  They found things on the up-and-up at our school. I haven’t followed the story too closely, but I suspect the LCWR had a similiar kind of Vatican investigation with different conclusions.

This is really interesting stuff. I think the priest handled it as best as he could. I don’t blame him for laughing at parts because the woman in the video was very all over the board. I think he nailed it though when he got the woman to say she didn’t believe there was one Truth because that’s really what was at the heart of the matter. And it’s good that he said that the Truth is not determined by mere numbers. The whole argument that birth control is used by a majority of Catholics ergo it must be moral, is illogical. If something is moral, there has to be more reason to justify it other than majority rule. It is good that he is dialoging because there are many Catholics whose hearts aren’t aligned with Church teaching, but are open to hearing the Truth and may want their beliefs to be in alignment, but just don’t understand the teachings. We live in a confusing culture and we need priests who are willing to explain Church teachings. (how’s that for a comment, Vic?)
